Full Description
Our most compact skip for small jobs and tight spaces - the 4-yard skip handles 40-50 bin bags and fits almost anywhere. Perfect when you have limited space but still need proper waste removal.
Is This Right for Your Project?
Perfect if you're:
  • Doing a small bathroom or toilet refurbishment
  • Clearing out a small shed or understairs cupboard
  • Light garden tidy-up (20-30 wheelbarrow loads)
  • Small office clearance or shop refit
  • DIY projects with limited waste
Too small if you're:
  • Renovating an entire bathroom with lots of tiles (try 6-yard)
  • Clearing out a garage or loft (try 6-yard or 8-yard)
  • Any kitchen work (definitely need 8-yard minimum)
Most people underestimate their waste. If you're unsure between 4-yard and 6-yard, the 6-yard is safer and only slightly more.
What Actually Fits? Think 40-50 black bin bags or:
  • Small bathroom: Toilet, sink, small cabinet, some tiles, flooring
  • Garden tidy-up: 2 tonnes of soil, small hedge trimmings, old plants
  • Shed clearance: Garden tools, broken furniture, boxes, general junk
  • Small DIY: Old flooring and wood
  • Flat clearance: Unwanted flat-pack and wooden furniture, boxes, wardrobes, old tools, junk (upholstered chairs and mattresses need declaring), boxes, household items
Dimensions: Length: 1.83 m, Width: 1.22 m, Height: 0.91 m - our smallest skip
Weight limit: Up to 4 tonnes
Best for: Tight driveways, narrow access, small projects

Need a Permit? On your property (driveway/garden): No permit needed On the road: We arrange the permit for you
Why Not Just Use Bin Bags? 4-yard skip: Delivered tomorrow, fill over 14 days, we collect 40+ bin bags to the tip: £20-40 fuel + multiple trips + heavy lifting Council collection: Limited to 3-4 items, 1-2 week wait, restricted items
The skip saves time and your back. Even for "small" jobs with 40+ bags.
4-Yard vs 6-Yard - Which Size?
Choose 4-yard if: Very small job, tight space, definitely under 50 bin bags Choose 6-yard if: Full bathroom, shed clearance, or any uncertainty about amount
Honest advice: Most people underestimate their waste by 30-40%. The 6-yard skip is only slightly more and you won't risk needing a second skip.

FAQ
Reviews
Do you need a permit for a 4-yard skip in Brighton & Hove?
A 4-yard skip is our smallest, but on the road it still needs the same Brighton & Hove City Council permission as a bigger one.
On a drive or private land? Brighton & Hove City Council's licence covers items on the public highway. A skip on private land is placed at your own risk, so pick a spot that can take the weight.
Pavement, road or verge? You need a licence. The council says anyone putting a skip on the public highway needs one, and may remove and prosecute for an unlicensed skip. Tell us when you book so the permit can be sorted before delivery.

Brighton and Hove licence rules

  • The council asks for a minimum of 3 days' notice for skip licences.
  • A licence can be taken for 1, 7 or 28 days.
  • Permit fees are non-refundable.

Siting and parking

  • A skip in a parking bay or controlled parking zone needs the bay suspension in place before the licence is issued
  • Long sides parallel to the carriageway edge, as near the edge as reasonably practicable
  • Never blocking drains, manholes or utility equipment
Repeat breaches of licence conditions can put a skip company on the council's monitored contractor list.

Before you book

  • Tell us the exact spot and any parking bay or access issues when you book.
  • Fill the skip level with the rim, with no boards.

Before you book a 4 yard skip in Brighton & Hove

It is 1.83 m long, 1.22 m wide and holds about 40 to 50 bin bags. Three quick checks tell you if it is the right size.

Ideal uses for a 4 yard skip in Brighton & Hove

  • Is it a cloakroom or en-suite? Then toilet, basin and tiles will fit. See our bathroom refit guide.
  • Is it a shed clear-out? Rotten shelving, old tools and boxes fit, a whole workshop does not.
  • Is it a hedge trim? Cuttings and a bit of soil fit. See our garden clearance guide.
  • Is it a single room's flooring? Carpet, underlay and laminate fit.

Choosing the right size

Check one: count the bags. Check two: can you picture it all below the top rim? Check three: do you have a second pile somewhere? If so, take the 6 yard.

Placement and permits

Measure your drive against 1.83 m. A skip on a public road or pavement needs a permit from Brighton & Hove City Council, which you apply for, and the fee is not refunded. On your own land, tell us the spot when you book.

Weight

Up to 4 tonnes. Load level with the top rim.
