Full Description
Our largest standard skip for major projects and full clearances - the 12-yard skip handles 110-130 bin bags and is perfect when you're tackling big jobs. If an 8-yard feels too small, this is your answer.
Is This Right for Your Project?
Perfect if you're:
- Clearing out an entire house or full flat
- Renovating multiple rooms or a whole floor
- Major building project or extension work
- Large garden landscaping (60+ wheelbarrow loads of light waste)
- Commercial clearance or shop refit
Too big if you're:
- Just doing a single room (try 8-yard)
- Small bathroom or bedroom (try 6-yard)
- Limited driveway space (this skip is 12ft long)
Upgrade from 8-yard? If you're unsure whether your project needs 8-yard or 12-yard, the 12-yard is only slightly more and removes the risk of running out of space mid-project.
What Actually Fits?
Think 110-130 black bin bags or:
- Full house clearance: Entire flat or 3-bedroom house contents
- Multi-room renovation: Kitchen + 2 bathrooms, or full floor refurbishment
- Large building project: Extension waste, timber, and packaging
- Commercial clearance: Office fit-out, shop refit, restaurant renovation
- Garden project: Light garden waste only (see weight warning below)
Dimensions: Length: 3.7 m, Width 1.78 m, Height 1.68 m - our largest standard skip
Weight limit: Up to 8 tonnes
Important for heavy waste: This skip takes up significant space. If you're disposing primarily of soil, rubble, or concrete, consider TWO 8-yard skips instead - easier to position and manage weight distribution.
Why Choose easySkip?
- Next-day delivery available (order before 2pm)
- All-inclusive pricing - delivery, 14-day hire, collection included
- Book online in 60 seconds - no phone calls needed
- We aim to recycle 90%+ of your waste - environmentally responsible
Need a Permit?
On your property (driveway/garden): No permit needed - but check you have 12ft of clear space
On the road: We arrange the permit for you
Why Choose a Skip Over Alternatives?
12-yard skip: One delivery, 14 days to fill at your pace, we handle everything
House clearance company: £400-800+ and you work to their schedule
Multiple 8-10 tip runs: £100-200 fuel + 2 full days + exhausting physical work
For major projects, the skip is the smart choice. You control the timeline, not the other way around.
12-Yard vs 8-Yard - Which Size?
Choose 12-yard if you're doing:
- Full house clearance (entire flat or 3+ bedroom house)
- Multi-room renovation (2+ rooms simultaneously)
- Major construction work (extension, loft conversion)
- Commercial project with significant waste
Choose 8-yard if you're doing:
- Single room renovation (kitchen, bathroom, bedroom)
- Single garage or loft clearance
- Small to medium building project
Price difference: The 12-yard is only slightly more than the 8-yard. If you're on the fence, go with the 12-yard - you won't regret having extra space, but you will regret running out halfway through.
Space & Weight Considerations
Space needed:
- Driveway: You need at least 12ft × 6ft of clear space
- Access: Delivery lorry needs 3 meters width to maneuver
- Height: Overhead clearance of 15ft (cables, branches, etc.)
Weight limits:
Light waste such as flat-pack and wooden furniture, boxes, wardrobes, old tools, junk (upholstered chairs and mattresses need declaring)
Heavy waste (soil, rubble, concrete): Max 8 tonnes - about 1/3 to 1/2 full
Mixed waste: Spread heavy items throughout, don't pile all in one spot
Pro tip: If your project is mainly heavy materials like soil or concrete, book TWO 8-yard skips instead. Easier to position, manage weight, and often works out similar cost.

Do you need a permit for a 12-yard skip in Barnsley?
A 12-yard skip on a Barnsley street needs a permit, and so does every other size. On private land, none of them do.
On your driveway, in your garden or on other private land? No permit needed. Barnsley Council only licenses skips that sit on the highway. If you want the skip on a driveway or other private surface, that placement is at your own risk, so pick a spot that can take the weight.
On the road, pavement or verge? You need a permit. In Barnsley the highway covers more than the road itself: footways, verges, lay-bys and hardstandings all count. If the skip has to go on the road, tell us when you book so the permit can be sorted before delivery.
How skip permits work in Barnsley
- Cost: Barnsley Council charges a fee for each permit. Permit fees are non-refundable.
- Notice: the council needs notice before a skip goes on the highway, so book with some lead time.
- How long it lasts: a Barnsley permit runs for 7 or 14 days, depending on the type of street. If the skip needs to stay longer, a new permit is needed.
- No permit: a skip on the highway without a valid permit can be charged a retrospective fee, and the council can remove it.
Where a skip cannot go on a Barnsley street
- Within 20 metres of a junction
- On a bus stop, or anywhere waiting restrictions apply
- Anywhere it would leave less than 3 metres of road for other vehicles
- Over drains, fire hydrants or manholes
The council also requires road skips to sit with the long side along the kerb, guarded by at least three traffic cones and lit at night.
What you need to do
- Tell us the exact spot and any access issues when you book.
- Fill the skip level with the rim. No boards on the sides, and nothing that could fall onto the road.
- Keep anything flammable, hazardous or likely to rot out of a skip on the street. Check our prohibited items list before you load.
- Even with a permit, the council or the police can ask for a skip to be moved.
