Full Description
Maximum capacity skip for major construction sites and large-scale commercial projects - the 16-yard skip handles 160-180 bin bags and is our largest standard size. Built for serious builders, contractors, and major commercial operations.
Is This Right for Your Project?
Perfect if you're:
  • Large construction site with continuous heavy waste flow
  • Major commercial development or shopping centre fit-out
  • Multi-unit residential development or apartment block renovation
  • Large-scale demolition project
  • Industrial facility clearance or factory refit
Choose 14-yard or smaller if:
  • Single house renovation (even large ones - 12-yard is sufficient)
  • Limited site access (16-yard requires significant space)
  • Mixed light/heavy waste (smaller skips easier to manage)
  • Domestic project of any kind
Site managers & main contractors: This is your go-to size for keeping large sites clear without constant skip swaps. One 16-yard skip = fewer deliveries = less site disruption.
What Actually Fits? Think 160-180 black bin bags or:
  • Major construction: Multi-story build waste, large extension, multiple unit renovation
  • Commercial development: Shopping centre fit-out, hotel renovation, large office strip-out
  • Demolition project: Taking down substantial structures, large-scale clearance
  • Industrial waste: Factory refit, warehouse clearance, manufacturing waste
  • Multi-unit residential: Apartment block renovation, multiple properties simultaneously
Dimensions: Length: 4.2 m, Width 1.75 m, Height 1.8 m - substantial height and footprint
Weight limit: Up to 8 tonnes
CRITICAL - Heavy Waste Warning: This skip is NOT suitable for pure heavy waste (soil, concrete, rubble, bricks). Heavy materials should fill MAX 30-40% of capacity to stay within 8-tonne weight limit. For heavy waste disposal, use multiple 8-yard or 12-yard skips instead - much more cost-effective and manageable.
Why Choose easySkip?
  • Next-day delivery available (order before 2pm)
  • All-inclusive pricing - delivery, 14-day hire, collection included
  • Book online in 60 seconds - no phone calls needed
  • We aim to recycle 90%+ of your waste - environmentally responsible
Special note: Due to size, this skip cannot be placed on public roads even with a permit in many areas. Confirm site placement before ordering.
Site Access & Permit Requirements On your site/property: No permit needed - but you MUST have adequate space On the road: Often NOT permitted due to size - check with us first
Critical site requirements:
  • Clear space: Minimum 14ft (L) × 6ft (W) - plus maneuvering room
  • Access width: Delivery lorry needs 4 meters clear width minimum
  • Overhead clearance: 20ft minimum (scaffolding, cables, trees)
  • Ground strength: Firm, level surface required - not soft ground or fresh tarmac
  • Turning circle: Lorry needs space to position skip accurately
Site managers: Plan delivery carefully. Once positioned, a 16-yard skip cannot be easily moved. Choose location that won't obstruct site operations.
Compare Your Options for Major Projects:
  • 16-yard skip: Maximum capacity, one delivery, keeps site clear for 7+ days
  • TWO 8-yard skips: Similar capacity, more flexible positioning, better for heavy waste
  • Multiple 12-yard deliveries: First skip fills, stop work to wait for second delivery = project delay
  • Grab lorry (£400-600): Must load while they wait, expensive hourly rates, disruptive to site
For major construction with continuous waste generation, one 16-yard skip is the most efficient solution.
Builder's advice: If your site generates significant heavy waste, book dedicated 8-yard skips for heavy materials and separate 16-yard for light materials. This approach:
  • Avoids overweight charges
  • Easier weight management
  • More cost-effective overall
  • Better site organisation
Pricing: 16-yard is slighlty more than 14-yard. For high-volume sites, the reduced swap-outs pay for the difference. However, if your waste is primarily heavy materials, TWO 8-yard skips is often more economical.

Maximum capacity for Glasgow's biggest jobs

It holds around 160-180 bin bags and carries up to 8 tonnes.

Ideal uses for a 16 yard skip in Glasgow

  • Commercial developments and fit-outs: Large shop, hotel or office fit-outs. Electrical goods and plasterboard are prohibited. See our commercial fit-out guide.
  • Multi-unit renovations: Several flats or units refurbished at once, with one collection point on site.
  • Industrial clear-outs: Factory refits and warehouse clearances with light, bulky waste like packaging and timber.
  • Large construction sites: Continuous waste from a big build. One large skip means fewer skips on site.

Choosing the right size

16-yard or 14-yard? The 14-yard is plenty for most trade jobs. The 16-yard suits big sites where you'd otherwise need several skips. Anything smaller than a 12-yard job should not use this size. One 16-yard means fewer skips on site. For anything domestic, go smaller.

Weight

Weight limit: up to 8 tonnes. Do not fill this skip with only heavy waste. Concrete, soil and brick should fill a small share of it. Load to the top rim only, never above it.

Placement and permits

A 16-yard needs space for the skip and for the lorry. Check the height as well, as it is a tall skip. Planning to put it on the road or pavement? You must get the permit from Glasgow City Council yourself. If it is going on your own land, tell us where when you book. Tell us about any access restrictions when you book. A delivery that cannot go ahead can incur a wasted journey charge. If the skip sits on a driveway, grass or pavement, that is at your own risk. Surface damage is not our liability, and a waiver may be required.
