Kitchen strip-outs and garage clear-outs in Belfast: the 8-yard

For a kitchen, a garage or a few rooms at once, the 8-yard is a sensible size.

Ideal uses for an 8 yard skip in Belfast

  • Garage and loft clear-outs: Wooden furniture, boxes and tools from years of storage. Mattresses, sofas and chairs are prohibited.
  • Multi-room refurbs: Timber, flooring and fittings from two or three rooms. Plasterboard is a prohibited item.
  • Garden landscaping: Fence panels, decking, hedge trimmings and turf from a full garden project. Keep soil and rubble below the weight limit. See our garden clearance guide.
  • Kitchen renovations: Units, worktops, tiles and flooring from a full kitchen strip-out. Appliances and other electrical goods are prohibited items, so keep them out. See our kitchen renovation guide.

Choosing the right size

8-yard or 6-yard? Choose the 6-yard for one room. Choose the 8-yard for a kitchen, a garage, or anything that spans more than one room. 8-yard or 12-yard? Go to the 12-yard for a whole-house clearance or a big structural job. If your project covers more than one room, start with this size, not a smaller one.

Placement and permits

An 8-yard skip is about 3.7 m long, so check you have the space on your driveway. Planning to put it on the road or pavement? You must get the permit from your local council yourself. If it is going on your own land, tell us where when you book. Mention any site or access restrictions when you book, because a delivery that cannot go ahead can incur a wasted journey charge. If the skip sits on a driveway, grass or pavement, that is at your own risk. Surface damage is not our liability, and a waiver may be required.

Weight

Weight limit: up to 8 tonnes. Fill the skip no higher than the top rim.
